TWILA TATE AND LEON TOUBIN NAMED MAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR

  

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce and the Brenham Economic Foundation announced their man and woman of the year last night (Tuesday) at the annual banquet.  Twila Tate and Leon Toubin were named Man and Woman of 2015.  They were introduced by last year’s recipients, Nita Hyatt and Donald Ray Ahrens.

Twila Tate is a retired school teacher who still volunteers at Brenham schools.  She is a past Maifest board member and is a lifetime Heritage Society member.  She has served with the Washington County Goodfellows, the Trinity Health Services Foundation, and the University of Texas Ex-students association.  She and her husband, Brenham Mayor Milton Tate, were instrumental in developing at butterfly garden at the outdoor learning center for BISD.

Leon Toubin graduated from Brenham High School, Blinn College and The University of Texas.  He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.  He has served on the boards of Trinity Hospital, the Brenham Industrial Foundation, and Main Street Brenham.  He was a member of the Blinn College Board of Trustees for 22 years.  He was the caretaker of the B'Nai Abraham Synagogue in Brenham since 1989.  He and his wife Mimi donated the property in downtown Brenham for Toubin Park.  Toubin thanked those responsible for his selection:

 

Eddie Harrison was honored as Blue Blazer of the year.  The keynote speaker for the evening was Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp.  He talked about how Texas A&M leads the nation in many areas including engineering and bio-medical research.

  1. It’s so heartwarming to see these people recognized for their many contributions to the community. These are very often the people behind the scene who organize and deliver community events but let others take the credit. Congratulations to all of you! Jobs well done!
