TWO AREA HS STUDENTS TO REPRESENT BLUEBONNET COOPERATIVE IN D.C. TOUR

The 2017 Government-in-action youth tour will take place next month in Washington, D.C., allowing more than 1,700 students representing their electric cooperatives to observe the nation’s government.

Congratulations to Daylon Drews, left, a senior at Round Top-Carmine High School, and Caleb Smith, right, a junior at Brenham Christian Academy, who have been selected to represent Bluebonnet during the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, which includes a trip to Washington, D.C., and a $500 scholarship. Logan Perry, center, sophomore at Giddings High School, will be the alternate. Students still have a few weeks to apply for a $2,500 Bluebonnet scholarship: bit.ly/1yH7xrG.

In a press release, Bluebonnet Cooperative announced their representatives this year will be Daylon Drews, a senior from Round Top-Carmine High School, and Caleb Smith, a junior at Brenham Christian Academy. They will have the opportunity to attend events hosted by the National Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives, meeting members of Congress and visiting the U.S. Capitol and other historical sites in our nation’s capital.

Logan Perry, a sophomore at Giddings High School, was chosen as an alternate should either Drews or Smith be unable to participate in the youth tour.

The three students were selected from 10 finalists and were chosen based on oral presentations, personal interviews and essays about electric cooperatives, politics and community issues.

In addition to the youth tour, Drews and Smith will each receive a $500 scholarship for use at the college or school of their choice after they graduate from high school.
