Two freshmen at Brenham High School have been invited to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Houston this summer.

Analisa Donate and Rocio Sanchez will be visiting the University of Houston June 24th through July 2nd for the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. The Forum will allow Donate and Sanchez to experience the collegiate lifestyle first-hand, as well as visit a medical school, learn from doctors, participate in clinical skills rotations, and explore professional opportunities in the fields of medicine and health care.

Donate and Sanchez are both part of the AVID program at Brenham High School, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The program seeks to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Sanchez said, “The AVID class has assisted me in growing both academically and mentally in school. The Cornell Notes is one of the most helpful strategies, in my opinion. It has helped me improve in my classes, and made me improve in my note-taking for college.”

Brenham High School AVID teacher Brett Mouser said, “Attending the National Youth Leadership Forum will allow these students to participate in an educational event that few students get the opportunity to experience.”
