TWO BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SELECTED FOR ALL-STATE BAND

Two Brenham Cub members have earned a place in the TMEA All-State Band.

Jacqui Deans is headed back to The All-State band for a second year in a row after earning second chair at the TMEA Area Band auditions Saturday. Danielle Deans is also headed to San Antonio for the TMEA All-State band after earning first chair at Area.

Members of the Cub Band performed three selections for a five person blind panels to earn the honor of performing with the TMEA All-State Band.  Less than 3-percent of students who begin the audition process earn a position in the Texas All-State band.

“I have been so proud of not only the number of students working, but also the incredible display of work effort shown. Their dedication to their craft has been admirable and inspiring to me. We had an unusually high number of musicians that gave an A+ effort preparing" said Eric Rettig, Brenham HS Band Director.

Rettig also released a statement saying:

"This fall our student leaders updated our three pillars and our new third pillar is commitment. Our definition for commitment ends with this sentence. 'Risk everything, even though you know the pain of not reaching your goal will be great!' Many of our students have done just that with their audition music this fall. In life, that kind of commitment can lead to pain but it can also lead to big achievement. But if you never commit and try your hardest, you will never know what awesome achievements and opportunities you can earn. In short, 'no risk, no reward.'

That being said, I am proud of every student who tried so hard and attended the auditions on Saturday. These students were either first or second alternate in their room. It was unbelievable to me how many of our students we so close and very difficult to see them feeling sad. It was also heartwarming to see them comfort and lift each other up the way a band family should. Congratulations Kellie Hoogie, Korrigan Korthauer, Kendall Chambers, Lizzie Vanek (First in her room but did place high enough in the tape audition.) Juliana Murphy, Ryan Middleton, Daniel Blanchard, Carter Rybarski (First in his room but did place high enough in the tape audition.) Cameron Daake, Timothy Vanek and Tommy Flowers. Great job you all. You should be proud of your effort and how well you are playing and I am excited to hear the great music we will make as we work together this spring."
