TWO MEN INDICTED FOR TEN YEAR OLD CAPITAL MURDER OF AN ELDERLY WOMAN

Two men arrested in December for a brutal murder of an elderly Brenham woman more than a decade ago, have been indicted for capital murder by a Washington County grand jury.

Twenty-nine year old Gorey Cornell Burns Jr., of Brenham and 28-year old Samuel ‘Sammy’ Mortay Granderson are charged with the brutal beating death of 95-year old Birdell Hickey on September 27th, 2003.  Police reports say members of her church went to check on her at her address on Armbrister Street because she had been seen for several days.  When Brenham police arrived at the scene they found her badly beaten.  She died two days later at the hospital.

  1. ……and he smiles? Disrespect for the victim, for authority, for himself and his own family. I realize that this mugshot may not have been taken for this offense (pretty sure it wasn’t). But still, he finds humor in being arrested. Lack of integrity, lack of respect. It’s a real shame that many of these “kids” wear their arrest record as a badge of honor.
