TxDOT: HIGHWAY 36 PROJECT STILL MONTHS AWAY

Officials with the state say work on Highway 36 is running a bit behind schedule.

The project, which began back in February of 2016, was estimated to take less that two years, but is now going on 26 months.

TxDOT Resident Engineer Mark Shafer says the construction could wrap up by the end of June.

Shafer says the $14.7-million project, still has significant work to be completed, including: final pavement work, restriping the lanes and installing a new signal system.

  1. So needed! It’s dangerous where the 290 loop at 36 is where the lanes go down to one. Hope it’s completed soon!

  2. *Lets just go back to horse and carriage like the good ole days where no stop signs needed and everyone got along with kindness and love. I think it’s wishful thinking but it’s worth a shot to start a conversation. I wish the best for hwy 36 drivers. Be safe!

  3. Has anyone noticed the huge dip that you encounter when coming into Brenham from Chappell Hill? I’m not talking about a little dip. It literally feels like you just hit an air pocket while flying on a jet and dropped 100 feet. I wonder how many motorists have blown shocks hitting that dip? I do see marks where trailers drag the concrete.

I don’t understand why the contractor who built the Brenham fly over wasn’t held accountable for that. We the Taxpayers paid for that thing and I don’t think we got our money’s worth. I’m hoping for a better outcome on the HWY 36 North expansion project in front of the vet clinic but I’m not holding my breath. Like one earlier poster said, why use concrete on one side and asphalt on the other?

  4. and the eternal road project continues…..I hope and pray that one day my grandkids will be able to enjoy using it because doubt I live that long!

  5. I hope the new light is going to go where they are putting in the new street for the subdivision. I cant believe they are putting in a street right there. The only two things to say about that whole project is the EMS station is a mile down the road, and Brenham needs a NEW LOOP!!

  6. Why is the north side pavement concrete but the south side asphalt? Did we run out of money? Anyone have an answer?

  7. Project should have been designed to have an overpass at intersection of Hwy 36 N and Blue Bell Rd due to all the traffic this area gets!!! I’ve seen over/underpasses put in for way less busy areas, head scratcher for sure. At least get the traffic light at inersection right please.

    1. This problem will be solved! I am confident our new county leadership will be more effective in dealing with TxDot, once they take office and have full control of planning our future transportation needs.
