TxDOT OPEN HOUSE DRAWS LARGE CROWD

A large crowd turned out Thursday night to get a glimpse of the latest proposed TxDOT project.

The project would make the 36 loop four lanes from Highway-290 to Highway-36.

The Highway 36 Loop between Business 36 and U.S. 290 ranks second on TxDOT’s statewide list of priority projects.

Among the hundreds who turned out for the open house to view the plans were Sheriff Otto Hanak, Chief Rex Phelps, along with County Judge John Brieden, as well as County Commissioners and local business leaders.

Brieden says he’s been closely watching the development of this project, and say this plan will benfit the community, “the long-term plan is for this to become a two-lane divided highway with a redesigned intersection at Highway 36 and Business 36.”

“Eventually, the next phase, which is a number of years down the road, would include overpasses at 577 and the re-designed Business 36 where the current construction is taking place.  It would be designed in a way to accommodate both the constructon of the four-lane and the overpass as well.”

Project Manager Clint Kolby of the Brenham Economic Development Foundation says this appears to be a good project for Brenham.

The project has not yet been funded. Early estimates project costs at $16 million, which will include two new bridges.

  1. I agree! Seems we are going to spend money now only to spend money again on the same thing later and it appears the public in general has no say.

  2. This is going to suck for the people that commute this way everyday. Way to much money and there is a much easier solution
