TXDOT SELECTS ROUTE FOR 249 EXPANSION THROUGH GRIMES COUNTY

The Texas Department of Transportation has selected a final route plan for the 249 Toll Road Extension Project that will extend through Grimes County.road_construction

It is an entirely new road that starts north of Magnolia and is about ten miles in length, ending just east of Navasota. It will be a two-lane toll road, crossing over County Road 304 west of FM 1774. It will then cross over Beason Creek and County Road 307.

The specific route was chosen after public hearing and comment. Chad Bohne, who works for TxDOT’s Bryan District, says there are “no homes, businesses, schools, or churches” that would have to relocate. However, the project has encounter opposition. Residents worry the toll road will invade farmland that has been family owned for decades. Bohne says they’ll have to acquire over 600 acres of right-of-way.

The 249 extension project is expected to cost about $200 million.

  1. Where are the voices of opposition to this taking of generational farm land? You know, the ones that oppose the high speed rail project through their precious farm lands? What is the difference between land for a road and land for common sense rail? Could it be the love of oil which propels the cars down the highways? Or the oil industry jobs with its outrageous profits, huge salaries, pollution and large political contributions? No politicians voice speaking against this taking of private land for public transportation? What gives?

    1. If you don’t like Texas just leave. We were good before you liberals came and we will be better when you leave. We won’t come to California, Michigan, Nevada, Connerticut, DC, Florida, just go back. The only change we need is for you to be gone. We can send you a card every now and then. We will even pay for your gas. And take a friend with you. That’s why God fave us the gas in the first place. Don’t mess with Texans.
