TXDOT WARNS MOTORIST NOT TO DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES

The Texas Department of Transportation is warning motorist not to drive around barricades placed at roads that are closed due to the recent flooding.

TXDOT Information Office Bob Colwell reminds motorist not to remove or drive around barricades, and to use the detours that are provided. Colwell also reminds everyone that it is a Class B Misdemeanor to drive around the barricades, and that law enforcement will be out enforcing the law.

Consequences for driving around the barricade are the same as a DWI. If you are caught, your car may be impounded, you can spend up to 180 days in jail or be fined up to $2,000, and even be charged for your rescue if appropriate.
