U.S. CENSUS ANNOUNCES WASHINGTON COUNTY POVERTY LEVELS

  

 

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 4,000 people in Washington County lived in poverty during 2011-2013. 

The numbers are data from counties and cities with populations greater than 20,000. That was unchanged during the previous three year span. 

These numbers include 1,490 children and 642 senior citizens, according to the Census Bureau. Washington County’s estimated population in 2013 was 34,147, and was based on the federal poverty line income of $23, 550 for a family of four. 

According to the Census Bureau, the surrounding counties had the following poverty levels: 

Austin County — 11.6 percent (3,303 people). 

• Brazos County — 29.4 percent (54,810). 

• Fayette County — 12 percent (2,925 people). 

• Grimes County — 19.6 percent (4,625 people). 

• Waller County — 20.1 percent (8,028 people).

  1. So Washington County’s Poverty Rate is approximately 12% ? Trying to divide 34,147 into more than 4,000 is a bit vague ….
