UNEMPLOYMENT AT HIGHEST LEVEL SINCE JANUARY 2013

  

The unemployment rate in Washington County has increased to 5.6-percent this past month – the highest the rate has been in three-and-a-half years,

June’s jobless rate was the highest since January of 2013, when it was 5.9 percent.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, June’s local labor force totaled 15,305, with 860 people unemployed.

The June rate is one full percentage point higher than the May rate of 4.6-percent.

The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a percent to 4.5 percent in June, which is still below the national average of 4.9 percent.

According to the Workforce Commission, Texas has added an estimated 171,100 seasonally adjusted jobs over the past year with the addition of 7,200 nonfarm jobs in June.

All area counties also saw an increase in their jobless rates: Austin County is up 7-tenths to 5.7-percent;  Brazos County jumped 8-tenths to 3.9-percent; Burleson County rose 7-tenths to 5.1-percent; Fayette County’s rate is up 5-tenths to 3.8-percent; Grimes County is up 8-tenths to 7.4-percent.  Lee County jumped 6-tenths to 4.1-percent; and Waller County’s rate rose 1.1-percent to 6.3-percent.

  1. These stats do such a poor job of telling the true state of our employment in this country. The Obama administration has destroyed the integrity of these numbers with it’s constant under reporting and revision of these numbers. The size of the workforce compared to when he took office has not grown to keep up with population. This is just one more example of the lies served to the American people by this administration.

  2. I have a full time job and a part time job. THERE ARE JOBS OUT THERE!!! but the government gives out to much free money that people will take advantage of………..

  3. Unemployment is high in the USA! Just think if 20 million illegals come in here! About to happen it looks like!
