UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS AGAIN IN OCTOBER

Unemployment dropped again last month in Washington County.

The county’s jobless rate dropped 2-tenths to 3.8-percent in October, the second lowest rate of the year.

Figures from the Texas Workforce Commission indicate a workforce of 17,885 in October, with just 688 out of a job.  Only the April rate of 3.6-percent is lower in 2014.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Texas fell one-tenth to 5.1 percent in October.  That rate is drastically lower than the 6.2 percent in October of last year.

The jobless rate was also down across the board in surrounding counties:

Austin County was down 3-tenths to 4.3-percent.  The rate in Brazos County is down 2-tenths at 3.6-percent.  The Burleson County rate of 3.8-percent is down 2-tenths from last month.  The Fayette County rate fell 1-tenth to 3.4-percent.  Gimes County is down 1-tenth to 4.5-percent.  The rate in Lee County is down 3-tenths to 3.4-percent.  And, the Waller County rate fell 2-tenths to 4.8-percent.

Workforce Commission chairman Andres Alcantar says eight of 11 major industries in Texas added jobs this past month, led by trade, transportation and utilities.
