UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE COUNTY REMAINS THE SAME IN AUGUST

  

The Texas Workforce Commission is reporting that unemployment in Washington County remained the same from July to August. Unemployment in Washington County remained at 4.6 percent in August, down from the 5.5 percent in August of 2016.

In the surrounding counties, Grimes County had the highest unemployment in August at 5.8 percent while Brazos and Fayette Counties had the lowest at 3.4 percent.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment for Texas went down slightly in August to 4.2 percent. Nationally, the seasonally adjusted rate for August went up slightly to 4.4 percent. One year ago, the national unemployment rate was at 4.9 percent.
