UNITY THEATRE ANNOUNCES NEW SEASON

Unity’s upcoming season will bring you a trip down memory lane, hysterical comedy, absurd drama, and tender human stories, with something for everyone to enjoy.

The season kicks off with Ted Swindley’s beloved musical Always…Patsy Cline playing September 24 - October 11. The show is based on the true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. The show was inspired by Cline’s letters to Seger, which were consistently signed “Love ALWAYS… Patsy Cline” and includes many of her unforgettable hits such as Crazy, I Fall to Pieces, Sweet Dreams, and Walking After Midnight

The Christmas season brings a nostalgic trip down memory lane with the heartwarming holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street, from the novel by Valentine Davies, playing December 3-December 20. In this family-friendly tale, Kris Kringle, an old man in a retirement home, gets a job working as Santa for Macy's. Kris unleashes waves of good will with Macy's customers and the commercial world of New York City, but what is at stake is one little girl's belief in Santa.

The Miss Firecracker Contest, by Beth Henley, rings in 2016 and plays February 11 – February 28. Full of cheerfully nutty characters, Firecracker is the touching, hilarious account of Carnelle (known locally in the small Mississippi town of Brookhaven as "Miss Hot Tamale") and her attempt to save her tarnished reputation and bursts with humor and absurdity.

Closing out the Main Stage is Scapino!, a comedy by Jim Dale and Frank Dunlop, playing June 2 – June 19, 2016.This hysterical adaptation of Moliere's comic tale of Les Fourberies de Scapin, (literally Scapin’s Deceits) takes place in Naples, Italy, where Scapino, a mischievous, fast-talking, quick-thinking rascal,  cleverly manipulates and cajoles everyone into doing exactly what he wants them to do.  Although not a musical, Scapino is punctuated with songs, for example an Italian menu is sung to a snappy tune in the opening scene!

Unity’s Studio Series brings you See Rock City, by Arlene Hutton, playing November 5 – November 15. Picking up a year after Arlene Hutton's critically acclaimed Last Train to Nibroc (which Unity produced in 2012), this is a tender portrayal of married life, set against the backdrop of World War II, and shows the best of the human spirit and its ability to overcome any and all obstacles

The Spring Studio Series production is a delightful romantic comedy by Jack Neary, Jerry Finnegan’s Sister playing April 7 – April 17. Brian Dowd has spent the last 10 years of his life wrestling with an unrequited "something" for his best friend's sister, who happens to live next door. But each and every time he's spoken with Beth Finnegan for more than 30 seconds, he's ended up with his foot planted firmly in his mouth. Now, Beth is about to get married and Brian's time is running out. In a series of fast-moving, hysterically funny scenes, two actors play Brian and Beth from ages seven and six, through their adolescent and teen years, to the present.

Unity’s Summer Family Musical is fun for the whole family! The Prince Street Players version of Pinocchio, by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy, will delight audiences of all ages. Playing July 28-31, and set in Italy, this fun version tells the beloved tale of Pinocchio, a boy-sized puppet built by the caring puppet maker, Geppetto. Knowing of his longing for a son, the Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life as a reward for Geppetto's remarkably generous spirit. From the Land Of The Toys to the belly of a whale, Pinocchio must learn that no love is greater than that of a parent for a child.
