VETERANS TO BE HONORED TODAY IN BRENHAM/CHAPPELL HILL

  

United States military members and veterans will be honored during the annual Memorial Day Service, Monday at Fireman’s Park.

The event is sponsored by the Washington County Veterans association, which is made of members of all the different veteran groups in the county.

The featured speaker will be Col. Jim Sackreiter, a local retired U.S. Air Force pilot.

Current and former members of the military will be recognized throughout the event. There will also be special emphasis on World War I, as 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the United States entering the war.

All members of the community are invited to the event, which will take place at 11 a.m. at Veteran’s Plaza at Fireman’s Park in Brenham.

KWHI will broadcast the program live, beginning at 11 a.m.

The Chappell Hill Cultural Heritage Group will host its 9th annual Memorial Day tribute at the Chappell Hill Historical Society Museum- 9225 Poplar St. Chappell Hill

The program begins at 10 AM and will feature musical tributes, guest speakers, student essay readings, Posting, Retiring the Colors, in honor of all who gave their lives in defense of our country.

Madelyn O’Brien, Chair of the Chappell Hill Cultural Heritage Group says,"The  event serves as an opportunity to express our deepest appreciation to military families everywhere."

This year’s theme “America, What My Country Means to Me” which is also the subject of this year’s student essay contest,” We strongly believe this topic to be relevant for students of all ages, and one of the most important purposes of our organization is to help everyone understand and appreciate the true meaning of this traditional American Holiday.

"The Museum will be open to the public and we encourage our friends from Washington County and the surrounding area to come take part in our program,” concluded O’Brien.
