Last Thursday, Sowders was shot and killed in a raid on a home on County Road 278 south of Snook on a search warrant.  Sowders was allegedly shot and killed by Henry Magee, who was in the home.

Magee's attorney, Dick DeGuerin claims his client thought it was a home invasion, not a law enforcement operation, and fired in self defense.

Sowders was 31 years old, and had just begun his eighth year with the Burleson County Sheriff's Office. Previously, he had served with the Somerville Police Department. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Somerville, where he had grown up and graduated high school.

Central Baptist Church is located at 1991 FM 158 in College Station.
