VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE COMING MONDAY

Washington County Clerk Beth Rothermel says it’s time for the county to renew the contract  with Election Systems and Software, to help the county tabulate the results and provide for the electronic voting machines under the Help America Vote Act. She says the Washington County Commissioners are expected to renew the contract when they meet Tuesday, exactly one month before the March 4th primary

Rothermel says an important deadline is coming for those who want to vote in the primary. She says to make sure you are registered by the end of the day Monday, February 3rd.

Rothermel reminds people that the current voter registration card is orange in color.  The voter ID is in effect meaning voters need to bring a specified form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license, state ID card, a citizenship certificate, or a concealed handgun license.  If you don’t have one of these types of identification you will have to vote with a provisional ballot.

Under the Voter ID law, the name on the voter registration card needs to be ‘substantially’ the same as it is on the ID.  Rothermel says for instance, if you are woman who has been married and take on a new last name, you can sign an affidavit to have your voter registration updated.

Early voting begins on February 18th and continues through February 28th

The Washington County Commissioners meet Tuesday at nine am at the Courthouse.
