VOTING CENTERS APPROVED FOR BRAZOS COUNTY

Voters in Brazos County will be using a relatively new idea when they go to the polls for the March primaries.

The State has approved voting centers in Brazos County, a system that was first tested in that county Nov. 3rd.

The centers allow voters to visit any of 26 polling locations in the county on Election Day, rather than voting at specific precinct locations.

Brazos County Clerk Karen McQueen tells the Bryan/College Station Eagle, the county has received approval from the Secretary of State’s office to use the vote centers.

McQueen says the vote centers are intended to make Election Day easier by allowing people to vote at locations most convenient to them rather than requiring them to leave work or school to vote in their home precincts. Several vote centers in November saw high percentages of out-of-precinct voters, with some as high as 95 percent.

The system has been implemented through several pilot programs across the state.
