WALLER COUNTY PIPE BURSTS LEAVING VOTING EQUIPMENT DRENCHED

The Waller County Election office had a pipe burst earlier this week leaving voting equipment drenched.

Elections Administrator, Dan Teed was the person to find the equipment soaked in his basement office. Around 60 pieces of voting equipment was removed and opened up to dry, though it is designed to function even if it gets wet. Teed reported that county officials do not believe that the recent heavy rainfall was what caused the pipe to burst.

The machinery was planned to be used in several elections with early voting beginning on Monday, including the county’s primary runoff that has early voting beginning May 16th and the primary runoff election May 24th.

In an email sent Tuesday, Teed tells people to “be on the lookout regarding odd behavior by the machinery”. Any problems with the voting equipment should be reported to vote@wallercounty.us.

  1. As a voter I would also be on the look out for “odd behavior”, this kind of thing reeks of election hijinks! Surely there must be some kind of official test of the machinery to certify that the equipment is functioning properly and that votes are being counter 100% correctly. Anything less than an independent review of each machine to ensure it is working correctly is unacceptable.
