WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS COURT TO DISCUSS PROPERTY TAX RATE

The Washington County Commissioners Court will meet Tuesday morning to discuss the 2016 property tax rate.

Commissioners will also schedule two public hearings on the proposed property tax rate in Washington County at that time.

The court is also discussing the approval of the statewide automated victim notification service maintenance grant contract between the Attorney General’s Office and Washington County. They will address the renewal of the service agreement between Appriss, Inc. and Washington County for the Victim Information and Notification Everyday program (VINE). The VINE service allows crime victims to obtain timely and reliable information about criminal cases and the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day. It has been providing victims and concerned citizens with information for decades.

Commissioners will also respond to the request to close roads for a 5K walk/run fundraiser for the Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department is requesting to close Longpoint Road from Bates Lane to Rehburg Road in Burton for the 5k fundraiser on September 24th from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

In addition, the court will discuss the approval of the revised emergency medical services supplement to the Washington County personnel policy manual; discuss a variance request from subdivision rules and regulations for a land division fronting Lange Lake Road and Brindle Creek Lane in Brenham; and hold a public hearing on the proposed Washington County Clerk’s record archive plan for 2017.

The Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse Chambers #103.

  1. So what they are saying, is they plan to raise our taxes again! Otherwise, why would they schedule two public hearings on the subject? Am I the only irate taxpayer? If anyone else has had enough of this continual increase in rates and valuation, then maybe plan on voting for ANYONE, ( democrat, republican, or other) other than the current commissioner. Write in if you must, but we must stop being stooges to the current county judge and court! They just took hotel tax money to spend on advertising for tourists, foolish decision, as it will not get better until oil recovers. More of our property is in the hands of 65 years because our locally stifled industrial foundation will not allow larger businesses to set up in the industrial park. We are not attractive to the young family for good paying jobs in sufficient quantities due to the “controls” protecting home grown large business. And the weekend / hobby farmers with two cows and 11 acres get a 50 percent ag exemption on their property tax.
