WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS MAKE SEPTEMBER CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

  

The Washington County Commissioners Court approved a proclamation naming September as Childhood Cancer Awareness month during their meeting today (Tuesday).

Donna Culliver, the Founder of Adam’s Angels Ministry, spoke to the Commissioners about the importance of highlighting childhood cancer awareness. Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children. She emphasized the importance of bringing awareness as childhood cancer affects people and families not just nationally, but locally.

Culliver announced the Adam’s Angels fundraiser this year is set for September 29th. It will be a drive-thru event at Bush’s Chicken. Tickets will be $10 per person.

The Commissioners also approved the Washington County Emergency Medical Services authority to purchase a F-450 ambulance chassis. It will replace an ambulance that has nearly 220,000 miles on it. The new ambulance was already written in to the 2017 budget. It will take approximately 4-6 months to obtain the new ambulance, and EMS states that they will use a spare ambulance in the meantime.

The County Commissioners also approved an intern for the Environmental Department; approved a memorandum of understanding between Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Washington County for technology services; and heard from the Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau about its third quarter report.

The discussion and approval of a non-exclusive license and services agreement between Local Government Solutions, L.P. and Washington County for the 21st Judicial Districts Attorney’s office was tabled. Commissioners stated that they need financial issues are clarified between Burleson County and Washington County before they can move forward.
