WASHINGTON CO. FAIR ATTENDANCE UP OVER LAST YEAR

  

Over 5,000 more people attended the Washington County Fair this year than last.

The 2017 edition of the fair came to a rousing end, Saturday night as a huge crowd turned out for Dwight Yoakum, in concert at the fairgrounds.

According to the Fair Association, 18,544 people attended the final night of this year’s fair, compared to 13,456 last year.  The total paid attendance for the fair this year was 49,265, while the total attendance last year was 43,986.

The opening Saturday and Tuesday featured free admittance and so there are no attendance numbers available on those nights.

Wednesday’s opening night was slightly down from last year at 9124, compared to 9424 last year.  The Thursday crowd was also down from 9584 in 2016 to 8935 this year.  Friday night saw an increase over 2016 with paid a attendance of 12,662 compared to 11,522.

Saturday’s show capped a full week of activities that began last Saturday with the crowning of Kennedy Altman of Washington County 4H as the fair queen.

Also on opening night, Hunter Kunkel and Maddei Rogers were named Junior Mr. and Miss.

Deborah Hupe was named top Adult Premium Exhibitor and Kennedy Ashorn was top Youth Premium Exhibitor in the Country Creations Divisions.

The winners of the Little Mr. and Miss contest were: Callen Schulte and Tinsley Kehlm.

Seven records fell at the Junior Livestock Auction—three among the Grand Champions and four in the Reserve Champions.  The Grand Champs sold for a total of $61,000 and the Reserve Champs at total of $60,000.  The total spent at the sale was $719,230.

Meanwhile, KWHI/KTEX-106’s booth at the fair, raised a total of $904 for Hurricane Harvey relief for the LaGrange and Columbus areas.
