WASHINGTON CO. LADIES LIONS DONATES NEARLY $12,000

The Washington County Ladies Lions donated nearly $12,000 to variety of organizations this week.

The club donated $5,000 to Lions Clubs International Foundation, $5,000 to the Brenham Volunteer Fire Department, $1,800 to the Brenham Evening Lions Club, and $100 for a new Lions road sign.

The donation to Lions Club International will be used to provide measles shots, and will be matched with a donation from the Gates Foundation. Measles is the number one reason for blindness in the world. The donation will provide 10,000 measles shots total.

The money donated to the Brenham Volunteer Fire Department will be used to buy a trailer, which the department will use to continue its school outreach program.

The Washington County Ladies Lions’ donation to the Brenham Evening Lions Club will provide eye screenings through the Optic Plus Unit.  Screenings can be conducted as early as 6 months old.  This Optic Plus unit is being purchased in a joint effort between the Washington County Ladies Lions, the Brenham Evening Lions Club, and the Noon Lions Club.

In addition, the Washington County Lady Lions also purchased a road sign for $100. It will be replacing the older signs at the four entries to Brenham. This is a joint project with the two other Lions Clubs.
