WASHINGTON CO. READ AUTHOR MAKES SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT

Author Paulette Jiles

The author of the novel chosen as the Washington County READ made a surprise announcement at last (Thursday) night’s reception and dramatic reading at Unity Theater in Brenham.

Paulette Jiles told the standing room only audience that her novel, “News of the World” would be made into a movie.  Jiles said she had just signed a contract with 20th Century Fox with actor Tom Hanks as producer and possibly staring in the lead role.  “News of the World”, Jiles’ sixth novel, has received rave reviews and praise from the literary world.

As part of last (Thursday) night’s reception, seven actors from Unity Theater did an outstanding job bringing a scene from the book to life.  Jiles answered a number of questions from the standing room only crowd following the reading.

“News of the World” was the 9th book chosen by the Washington County READ Committee for the community to read as a group.  READ is presented by the Lifetime Learning Program.  “News of the World” is available at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, Blinn College Library, Book Nook and as an e-book.

Actors perform a dramatic reading of "News of the World" Thursday evening.
