WASHINGTON CO. SHERIFF RELEASES 2015 CRIME STATISTICS

  

The following is a release from the Washington County Sheriff's office:

During the year 2015, the Washington County Sheriff's Office conducted criminal investigations, traffic stops, investigated traffic accidents, participated in mandated training, conducted job interview boards, and responded to and investigated assaults and disturbances. Deputies also investigated property crimes, testified in court, responded to loose livestock and residential and business alarms, provided courtroom security, transported prisoners statewide, and conducted safety and welfare checks on residences and businesses. Our staff also participated in public forums and motivational speeches for various organizations including school, civic, youth and church groups. The items listed below represent a small sample of over 100 incident/offense categories tracked and reported by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

1)         Responded to 20,250 incidents/calls
2)         798,430 miles driven
3)         1085 traffic tickets written
4)         2517 traffic warnings
5)         513 traffic accidents
6)         802 reckless driving calls
7)         570 false alarms – (2014 – 525) – 8.6% increase
8)         740 loose livestock calls – (2014 – 784) – 5.94% decrease
9)         56 animal/animal bite calls
10)       1547 arrests – felony and misdemeanor
11)       398 request to verify welfare of individual
12)       769 calls of “assistance rendered” to motorists and outside agencies
13)       1537 warrants (felony and misdemeanor) executed
14)       887- business checks/foot patrol\
15)       3854 - license plate verifications

During the year 2015, deputies, jailers, work crew supervisors, and support staff  performed the following functions:

1)         1673 male suspects booked into the jail
2)         501 female suspects booked into the jail
3)         136 inmates transferred to T.D.C.
4)         181bailiff service dates to County, District and family courts
5)         98% completion of repainting and repairing jail structure with inmate and staff labor which results in saving well over $250,000.00 of tax dollars.
6)         Since January 1, 2015, staff and inmate labor removed 835,800 pounds of trees, brush, and timber from our county roads with inmate and staff labor.  In addition, inmate and staff personnel provided cleanup services, assistance to and maintenance services for the Washington County Fairgrounds, Maifest, Burton Cotton Gin Festival, Collection Station, Bread Partners, Fortnightly Club Book drive, Latium Fire Department, the Margaret Blizzard Senior Activity Center and many others.

In the year 2015, the Citizens on Patrol (C.O.P.), consisting of 5-10 men and women, and designated to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, performed the following functions.  This professional work is cost free and is a tremendous asset to the Sheriff’s office, organizations, and our community. In addition to the C.O.P. required training, these men and women have trained in Hazardous Materials, Pipeline Emergency Response, and SKYWARN (weather events).
