WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVED VALMONT TAX PHASE-IN AGREEMENT

The Washington County Commissioners met and approved a commercial tax phase-in agreement between Valmont Coating, Inc., and Washington County. Clint Kolby and Kevin Halstead, of Valmont Coating made the presentation to the commissioners, who reminded those in attendance of the 80 new jobs that will be created during the first year of operations, and the addition to $4.3 million in payroll to the local economy.

County Judge John Brieden remarked that the pollution problems of the past from another company would not be a concern with Valmont, with all bi-products produced by Valmont Coatings being either destroyed or sold, and would not go into the environment. Representative from the City of Brenham had made a trip to the Valmont Plant in Nebraska to check out the facilities there, to ensure that the environment would not be affected.

The commissioners also approved the name change of Mohawk Road to Choctaw Road. Mohawk Road will now become an extension of Choctaw Road, and will be renamed Choctaw. Mohawk Road will no longer be in existence. All landowners on the area approved the measure.

Also discussed and approved was the granting of authorization to the Road and Bridge Department to re-advertise for Sealed Bids for a 2015 Seal Coating Contract. Bids are due April 20th at 2pm, and will be award on April 21, at 9am.
