At this morning’s meeting, Dr. Wilfred Dietrich presented a report to the County Commissioners for the Washington County Historical Commission.  Dr. Dietrich said he is working on getting historical markers for the two bridges that were relocated from county roads to city parks.  One bridge was over Indian Creek on Hohenwald School Road and was relocated to Hohlt Park and the other was over Tommelson Creek and was relocated to Henderson Park.  Dr. Dietrich said he has not found any of the history on the Tommelson Creek Bridge and is requesting anyone who if familiar with its history please contact him at wilfred.bobbie@sbcglobal.net

In other action, the Commissioners nominated Leslie Boehnemann to serve on the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors. They also appointed Commissioner Zeb Heckman to serve as the County’s representative on the Appraisal District’s budget committee. Audience member Bill Neinast questioned why the names of people that the Commissioners planned to appoint to various boards were not listed on the meeting agenda.  County Judge John Brieden said that he was not aware of any counties who did that, but they are looking into the issue.

The Commissioners canvased the vote from the February 17th runoff election.  County Clerk Beth Rothermel reported that there was a 14 percent turnout of voters for the runoff and thanked all the people who helped in the 4 elections that were held in the last 4 months.  The Commissioner also approved a contract with the Burton School District for the May 9th election.  Washington County provides them with the required equipment for disabled voters.

In other action, the Commissioners approved a request to the Texas Comptroller’s Office for Washington County’s portion of unclaimed capital credits from electric cooperatives.  That amount is estimated to be around $10,000 and is from returned capital credits that the electric cooperatives were unable to locate the recipients.
