WASHINGTON COUNTY DEPUTY HONORED AT STAR OF TEXAS AWARDS
A Washington County Deputy who lost his life in a traffic accident will be honored by the State of Texas today (Monday) at the Star of Texas Awards.
In 2006, Don Wass, 35, of Bellville died in a car accident on Highway 36 South in Austin County as he was reporting for duty. He was a nearly 10-year veteran of the Sheriff’s office. Lt. Dan Houston, of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, submitted Wass’ name for the awards ceremony.
The Star of Texas Awards honors all Texas officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who are killed or seriously hurt in the line of duty. The award was created in 2003 when the State of Texas passed a house bill which encouraged the commemoration of first responders and their selfless commitment to serve.
Don was a Very Special nephew and we all miss him everyday.
Thank Officer Dan Wass’s family for his service to protect us. My prayers are with you as this Award is given in memory of Officer Wass today.
So sad yet wonderful that he is being remembered and honored.
