WASHINGTON COUNTY FAIR BEGINS THIS WEEK

  

The 146th Washington County Fair gets underway later this week.

Fair events get underway Friday with a wine reception, crafts show and the opening of commercial exhibits.

The annual Washington County Fair parade is set for Saturday, at 10 a.m. in downtown Brenham.

Opening ceremonies are set for Saturday night, including the crowning of this year’s fair queen.

This year’s queen candidates include: Ashlyn Korth and Heather Ruemke, of the Washington County 4-H;  Haley Nutt, representing the Burton High School FFA;  Caylee Rocka, sponsored by the Brenham High School FFA; and  Lundy Porter, of the Brenham High School FCCLA.

Ashlyn Korth is a senior at Brenham High School and is representing Washington County 4-H where Charles Seely is her sponsor.  She has been involved in 4-H since she was a clover kid.  She also participates in FFA events and has been a Girl Scout for 13 years.  Ashlyn is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council.  Ashlyn tells us about herself:

 

 

KWHI will feature one of the Fair queen candidates each day this week.

Entertainment for this year’s Fair kicks off Saturday evening with Wade Bowen and Josh Grider.

Sunday, will feature the Grateful Geezers—a band that plays a wide variety of Texas music styles including: blues, R&B, rock and jazz.

Tuesday the 16th is Tejano Night, while Wednesday is Christian Music night with the band, Building 429.

Thursday the 18th will feature a trio of Texas bands including:  1100 Springs, The Tejas Brothers and Two Tons of Steel.

Friday night the 19th will see Blacktop Gypsy opening up for the legendary Robert Earl Keen.

And, Saturday the 20th, the closing night of the fair will see Texas Music icon Gary P. Nunn opening for the largely popular Randy Rogers Band.

Judging in the Junior Livestock Auction categories will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Pre-fair season tickets, available only from queen candidates, are $25 each.

  1. Go to the Building 429 concert if y’all can. They are a great christian band! You will have a great time at Christian night!
