WASHINGTON COUNTY FARM BUREAU CONNECTS WITH CONSUMERS

Washington County Farm Bureau engaged with local consumers on February 19 at our local neighborhood Brookshire Bros Grocery Store in Brenham for Food Connection Day.

Previously Food Check Out Week, the observance is part of a great effort to bring people who grow food together with people who eat it.

"It doesn't matter who you are. Food plays an important role in your life." Washington County Farm Bureau President Larry Winkelmann of Burton, TX said. " But many folks have questions about what they eat. We encourage conversations between consumers and farmers about how food is grown and raised."

Washington County Farm Bureau celebrated Food Connection Day by purchase of a basket of groceries of Miranda Schroeder and her son Lexan at Brookshire Brothers in Brenham. The $204.55 basket of meat, bread, cheese, vegetables, eggs, ice cream, milk, juice and fruit was a big surprise to Schroeder, who had chatted with FMB directors while shopping.

Breathlessly, Schroeder said "yes, thank you!" when asked by Winklemann if the County Farm Bureau could please purchase her basket of groceries.

A matching donation will be made to Bread Partners as a second event
