WASHINGTON COUNTY HEALTHY LIVING ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES FUNDRAISER

  

The Washington County Healthy Living Association (WCHLA) has launched a campaign to raise money to support the Senior Activity Center in Brenham.

The association has seen a huge influx in membership, adding an additional 900 members since opening the new senior center last February. The Washington County Healthy Living Association is the only organization in a seven county area that serves hot meals to senior citizens.

One of the Senior Activity Center's goals is to give relief to the huge and growing costs of medical and nursing home expenses, which are primarily paid for by tax dollars through Medicare and Medicaid. The average cost of nursing home care is about $3,500 per month, per person. If a senior citizen requires help from home health care attendants giving support in a senior's home, which enables that senior continued independence, those costs average only about $1,200 per month.

The association says they need to raise money to purchase another van which is used to give citizens rides to the Senior Center, grocery store, beauty shop, doctor’s office and more. Money will also be used to pay utilities. As always, the association is looking for additional volunteers.
