WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS HOLDS TEXAS-SIZED CELEBRATION

The rainfall wasn’t enough to deter many people who ventured to Washington-on-the-Brazos this past weekend to celebrate Texas’ 181st birthday.

Guests at the park were able to tour the Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Living History Farm, where interpreters reenacted life like original residents.

Multiple shows were performed over the weekend, including a play titled “The Birth of a Republic” and “Dr. Balthasar’s Medicine Show”.

In addition, the park showcased cannon and musket firing lines, old-time live music, traditional crafts, and an authentic 1836 Texas Army camp where visitors wandered freely.

On Sunday, KWHI held a live broadcast of the Washington-on-the-Brazos Park Association Program. The keynote speaker was Justice Ken Wise. Featured guests included State Senator Lois Kolkhorst and Texas State Park Region Four Director Justin Rhodes.

The festivities came to an end Sunday evening with the Texas birthday cake cutting and a performance of “Texas Our Texas” by the Texas A&M University Singing Cadets.
