WCHLA ANNOUNCES THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER

  

The Washington County Healthy Living Association announced this morning that they are ready to being to construct a new senior activity center

The construction of the WCHLA Margaret E Blizzard Senior Activity Center will be the name of the new building, to be built on the Kenjura Family Senior Complex land donated by John and Julie Kenjura

In October 2013, a challenge was issued by the Mabee Foundation to the Washington County Healthy Living Association, which said that if the WCHLA reached its fundraising goal, the Maybee Foundation would donate $500,000 to the project. The deadline to reach that goal was November 19th.

Toy Kurtz, executive director of the WCHLA told the Mabee Foundation that they had raised 2,818,904 including cash donations and pledges, and $464,119 in in-kind donations from 150 different contributors, for a total of $3,283,023.

Kurtz was told that when the construction actually starts, the Mabee Foundation will be sending their check.

Dr. Don Voelter, with the Washington County Healthy Living Association told the audience present at today’s presentation how the name of the senior center was decided upon.

 

 

Phase II will involve finishing out activity rooms, for a total of $200,000

Collier Construction will be the Construction Manager at Risk, and construction will begin in the next three to four weeks, and that Collier’s first draw to be January 2015.
