WELLMANN NAMED NATIONAL HITTER OF THE WEEK

Former Brenham Cubette and Blinn Buccaneer softball star Sydney Wellmann has been voted as HERO Sports DII Softball Hitter of the Week.

Wellmann, a first baseman at St. Mary's University in San Antonio received the recognition for her stellar play against Texas-Permian Basin last week.

Following a week of voting, Wellmann was selected as the nation's hitter of the week after receiving 54 percent of the vote, beating out four other contenders as she obtained over 400 of the 744 votes cast.

Wellmann batted .545 with 14 RBI and four home runs against the Falcons in a three game series in Odessa, Texas.  The outing propelled the Rattlers to a three-game sweep of UTPB, pushing the Rattlers' winning-streak to 10.

For the season, Wellmann is hitting .443 with 12 home runs, 39 runs scored an 44 runs batted in, in 26 games.

Wellmann's former Brenham Cubette teammate, Olivia Van Hook, now a junior outfielder with the Rattlers is hitting .293 so far this season, with 3 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs, while scoring 19 runs and driving in 16.

Wellmann, Van Hook and the Rattlers will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville at the Softball Stadium at the Park at St. Mary's.
