WEST NILE VIRUS DISCOVERED IN TEXAS

The State Health Department has reported the first case of the West Nile Virus in Texas this year. The case is in the Austin area. The report also says that the recent rainfall helped flush out the standing water from previous rains. The drying since the latest rains however, means more standing water and that means more mosquitoes.
No cases of West Nile have been reported in Washington County since last year. The health department does say to drain standing water, wear insect repellent, try to avoid being outside at dawn and dusk, and to dress in long sleeves and pants to avoid bites.
