WEST TEXAS COULD BE PRIMED FOR WILDFIRES

Experts say dry, gusty conditions in parts of Texas this week have increased the threat for wildfires.

The Texas A&M Forest Service announced critical fire weather conditions are expected over the Texas Plains region through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued an alert increasing the wildfire potential for the panhandle and throughout west Texas.

The Forest Service says increased fire activity could happen due to sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph combining with above-normal seasonal temperatures.

The forecast for the region includes partly cloudy and windy with highs near 80 on Tuesday. Officials also cite low relative humidity.
