WILHELMS ESTABLISH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR BLINN STUDENTS

As a former Blinn College athletic director, Don Wilhelm knows exactly how big a difference a college education can make in a student’s life. As an elementary school teacher for more than 30 years, Mary Wilhelm shares his passion for education.

Thanks to the Wilhelms’ generosity, even more students will now have the opportunity to study kinesiology or elementary education at Blinn College. The Wilhelms recently established an endowed scholarship that will benefit a kinesiology or elementary education major on the Blinn-Brenham campus each semester.

“We fully believe in what Blinn is doing educationally and if we can help students go to school that that would be fantastic,” said Don Wilhelm.

Don Wilhelm served as Blinn’s athletic director for 10 years. Each year, the women’s basketball team’s most valuable player is named the Don Wilhelm MVP award winner and the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association presents the Wilhelm P.H.D. Award in recognition of an individual’s pride, honor and dedication to the community.

“The Blinn College Foundation is proud to continue its tradition in the support of student achievement with our newest endowed scholarship donated by long-time supporters Don and Mary Wilhelm,” said Ron Alfred, Foundation chairman. “The Wilhelm name is a fitting tribute to a couple who have dedicated their entire careers to educating our youth.”

The Foundation supports programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand the educational opportunities for the entire community. While raising funds is an important function, the Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education.

Since its inception in 2000, the Foundation has raised funds to purchase classroom equipment and supplies, and help launch major construction projects across Blinn’s campuses, including the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall.
