The first African American Police Sergeant with the Brenham Police Department has passed away.  Willard Mayes Sr. died today (Thursday) at Brazos Valley Hospice in Bryan.  He was 93 years old.  Services are currently pending with Lewis Funeral Home in Brenham.

  1. He was a hard working person and in working part time on his days off for my dad doing carpentry he.was well loved by co-workers. Perry Thomas

  2. My condolences to the family and God will provide comfort at this difficult time. To my classmate JoAnn and Pat, your dad left a legacy that I will never forget. I know he loved The Lord and the church, but he was also a great community leader and mentor. I remember how he worked with us as young boys playing baseball with the blue jays. I thank God for placing him in our lives teaching us to be godly men.

    1. Finest of gentleman.Worked with him in the early nineties at Medicare equipment.Highest respect and admiration.
