WILLIS, DIXON DOWN CUBETTES, 8-2
The long 2014 season continued Tuesday night for the Brenham Cubettes, as they fell to Willis, 8-2 at Alumni Field.
Willis’ Casey Dixon was nearly flawless, as she led the LadyKats (7-5 in district) to their fourth win in their last five 18/4A contests.
Dixon allowed just one earned run on five hits, while striking out 11 Brenham hitters and didn’t walk a batter.
Willis took the lead in the top of the third on Erica Wood’s three-run homer off Brenham starter Macie Becker.
The LadyKats would steadily add to their lead throughout the game, with a run in the fourth; two in the fifth; and one run each in the sixth and seventh.
The Cubettes (10-12/3-8) were able to plate two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Jordan Wellmann, who was 3-for-3 on the night, singled with one out. That was followed by Reagan Kwiatkowski’s rbi-triple. A throwing error allowed Kwiatkowski, who was 2-for-3, to score.
Friday night, the Cubettes will travel to Montgomery to face the Lady Bears, who are currently alone in first place in the district. First pitch is at 7:00, with a 6:40 pre-game on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.
In other 18/4A action last night: Montgomery 10 Waller 2; Magnolia West 11 Rudder 4; Magnolia 17 Caney Creek 1; Huntsville had a bye.
