WINDY AND DRY CONDITIONS BRING MULTIPLE GRASS FIRES

Windy conditions and dry vegetation have resulted in multiple large grass fires across the county.  Monday afternoon at 1:30, the Washington and Meyersville Fire Departments were dispatched to a fast moving grass fire on Bosse Road and FM 912 in Northeastern Washington County.  They were joined by firemen from the Chappell Hill Fire Department.

At 3:10 PM Monday, the Gay Hill and Rocky Creek Departments were dispatched to a grass fire in the 9500 block of Longpoint Road in Northern Washington County.

Sunday afternoon, firemen from the Brenham and Prairie Hill Departments fought a large grass fire in the 3600 block of Schlottman Road near Old Independence Road.  That fire burned approximately 20 acres.

County Commissioners last week reminded residents to be extremely cautious with any outdoor burning.  Washington County is not under a burn ban yet, but one could be put in place if needed.

  1. Another real problem are the folks who pull a BBQ trailer with hot &/or burning coals in the pit.

  2. Indeed a burn ban could be needed right now but most people with common sense wouldn’t burn on windy days like this anyway, or they at least check the forecast for the next day or so before they start. But what will also help is for smokers to stop throwing cigarettes out of car windows.
