Dirt work has begun on the Belle Towers senior housing project.  Heavy machinery is currently preparing the site for construction of the 76 unit three story housing complex.  A building permit was issued last month for the 6 million dollar complex to be located on a 2.5 acre tract bordered by North Market, Cottonwood and Liberty streets.

The Belle Towers Senior Community complex is being developed by HuntJon LLC.  The Brenham City Council approved a special use permit last year after hearing local residents concerns about the project.  Citizens had expressed concerns about traffic congestion and the lack of parking spaces planned for the project.  They also said that a 3 story building did not blend with surrounding single story homes and business.

HuntJon was seeking $750,000 in federal housing tax credits for the three story apartment complex, but was not funded by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs back in August. However, since other funded projects were cancelled, the tax credits became available for Belle Towers.  The project is scheduled to be completed in March of 2016.
