WORK CONTINUES ON F111 RESTORATION PROJECT AT BRENHAM AIRPORT

Work has been continuing on the restoration of a F111 fighter-bomber at the Brenham airport.  This (Monday) morning, a crew from the City of Brenham Electric Department was at the airport with a small crane to help move some of the parts of the plane.  Project coordinator Don Holley explains what was going on:

The Washington County Veterans Association acquired the airplane last year from an airport in Nevada and had it transported to Brenham.  They plan on restoring the plane and putting it on display at Henderson Park, across from the American Legion Hall.  Holley says they got the engineering plans last week for the concrete pad that the plane will be displayed on.  Due to the heavy weight of the plane, the slab is expected to cost $40,000.  A small group of veterans have been working on the plane since it arrived last fall.  Holley explains what the tedious work entails:

Holley said they will make a decision in the next 2 weeks if they can reach their goal of having the plane on display for Memorial Day this year.  If you would like to volunteer to help with the restoration work or donate to the project, contact Don Holley at 979-830-3980 or Ben Seeker at 979-277-5061.

Don Holley (L) and Jason Lange with the Brenham Electric Department maneuver a large section of the F111 tail inside a hanger at the Brenham airport Monday.
Veteran Phillip Bell, who has helped with the project since the plane arrived in Brenham, scrapes paint from the fuselage Monday morning.
