WORK TO BEGIN SOON ON US 90 BRIDGE IN SEALY

Work is scheduled to begin on the US 90 bridge crossing State Highway 36 in Sealy the week of March 16 and is expected to last two weeks, and upon completion of repairs, US 90 will be reopened to two-way traffic and the temporary signal light will be removed.

TxDOT selected a contractor following a competitive bidding process, with Gibson and Associates of Balch Springs being awarded a $163,000 contract to replace three of the six beams that help support the US 90 roadway, which were heavily damaged in November of 2014 when an oversized load being carried by an 18-wheeler damaged the bridge.

TXDOT is attempting to get reimbursement from the trucking company that owned the 18-wheeler.

During the two week close down, weekday daytime traffic on SH 36 will detour to Loop 350, and will only be in effect while workers are repairing the Bridge. SH 36 will be open to traffic on nights and weekends.

US 90 traffic will be limited to one lane until repairs are complete, with operational traffics lanes to be switched during the first week of the project. No full bridge closures are planned

Construction on the new US 90 bridge over SH 36 and the nearby railroad tracts will begin in 2017.
