YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE EQUIPMENT STOLEN

The search is on for $25,000 worth of missing football equipment, stolen from a local youth league.

According to the Brenham Police Department, 180 sets of helmets and shoulder pads belonging to the Brenham Youth Football League are missing, along with the man charged with getting the equipment reconditioned.

According to League President Robbie Wooten, officials believed the equipment had been sent off to Riddell to be cleaned and re-painted—and that’s where they thought the equipment was all summer.

However, officials from the athletic equipment supply company told Wooten, when he called them last week, they never received the helmets and pads.  Wooten says he tried to contact the man who’d been in charge of the equipment but was told no one had seen him since last week.

Wooten says they expect to get replacement equipment later this week, but the league will take a substantial economic hit.

Wooten says anyone who would like to help the league with a donation may do so by becoming a league sponsor through the league’s website at: www.brenhamyfl.com.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up at: http://www.gofundme.com/7q6xy8tb3g.

Brenham Police are continuing their investigation.

  1. I think they are not naming him since he hasn’t formerly been charged with anything. I guess KWHI could name him as a person of interest in the investigation. If you have Facebook, his name is mentioned all over it. I am really surprised that the gossip tree of Brenham hasn’t run amuck!

  2. This is a total crock. Not naming this person and/or providing a picture of this man, out of respect for his family. Lets be realistic!! Name names and who faces!!!

  3. They never worry about the other people families and kids who commit crimes and their picture and name are in the paper and on the web page. What’s the difference in his family and everyone else’s family

  4. I just want to thank Robbie, and the rest of the coaches for keeping us as parents in the loop of what is going on. They work very hard just so our kids can play football.
So, thank you all for what you do and continue to do for our children.
BYFL is a wonderful organization, and will not let this or any other situation bring us down! Go Cubs!!

  5. Its just down right sad! A lot of people make mistakes and get blasted on social media the news and kwhi all the time! These people have children as well! A criminal is just that a criminal, and just like any other criminal the system should be set the same for everybody.

  6. The “person’s” name could definitely help find who did these children and Brenham youth football wrong.

  7. Would be nice to know the “man” in question so that if anyone see him they can contact proper officials on this matter. Again hiding the person(s) names of interest doesn’t help catch them.

    1. He was a coach for the league so the parents know who he is. He does have small kids in the league as well as BISD, so I think that is why they tried to keep his name out of the papers.

    2. They are not releasing his name out of respect for his family…especially his children. His name being released in a small town could unfortunately have a negative impact on them. BYLF is trying to respect the difficult situation they have been put in.

      1. Sorry, I think it is rather odd that a go fund me account was setup and this was also reported on KBTX. Name the person and file charges. Stealing $25,000 in equipment is no different than stealing most cars. So the person either did a class 2 or 3 felony and their name is concealed out of respect? Or was this done to get a influx of cash into the organization? Something seems rather fishy here……

        1. Sorry, that you fill like something shady is going on. But I assure you and anyone else that’s not the case. We filed and pressed charges within hours of finding this out. We also released the name of the guy to police. It’s now in there hands to release his name to the public. We notified all parents of the situation as soon as we could. Sir! we have nothing to hide in this league, and would never use a situation like this to gain anything.

          1. Good to hear Dale. Now let’s hope that they produce the name and set an example of him/her. It just seemed a bit shady that the name wasn’t being reported and folks saying it was out of respect for the family. Lots of people were put in a bad place by this person’s actions. Hopefully we’ll see a conviction reported here in the near future.

      2. Why not mention the person who did this??? Out of respect for the family? But yet many people get blasted on kwhi everyday for the crimes they committed. I guess the others don’t deserve the “respect”. They have family/children as well. What’s different about this situation? NOTHING. The point is this person committed a crime and this should be treated just like any other case. Let the community know! But Washington county picks n chooses who they want to blast on the news. What is there to hide?

  8. Shame on the person who stole from these children. Their parents work hard to have a positive outlet for them and this happens.

    1. What are you guys doing about background checks cause from what I heard this guy has a record for theft the entire league should’ve done this from the jump and this would’ve never happened I think you guys owe it to the parents to ensure them who you are.
