ZAJICEK ELECTED NEW MAYOR OF BURTON

  

The City of Burton will be getting a new mayor.

Challenger David Zajicek defeated incumbent Peggy Felder, 86-36 in Saturday’s election.

Felder has served the last 10 years a Burton’s mayor and was also the mayor for a five year period back in the 1990’s.

Zajicek is the editor and publisher of the Burton Bulletin, a monthly newsletter about the city.

He previously served as a past president and treasurer of the Burton Heritage group.

Zaijcek says he will work to improve the city’s infrastructure, and would like to attract more businesses to Burton by creating an economic development plan.

Meanwhile, in the race for three spots on the Burton School Board, Linda Majek Haten has been elected to the board.  Hasten finished with 231 votes, while Misty Goldberg Lucherk finished with 228 and Fleton Cox has 222 votes.  Incumbent Jeff Harmel finished with 210 votes.

The Somerville School board will remain intact as Stanley Smith and James Douglas were re-elected to their posts.

Smith received 116 votes, while Douglas got 92.  Challenger David Flessner finished with 76 votes in the balloting for two positions on the board.
