10 BUC FOOTBALL PLAYERS SIGN WITH 4-YEAR SCHOOLS

Seven of 10 signees heading to Division I universities

Ten Blinn College football players are set to continue their playing careers at four-year colleges and universities after signing mid-year letters of intent.

Seven of those 10 players are heading to Division I schools in the Southeastern, Big 12 and Pac 12 conferences, and nine of the 10 players will report to their new four-year schools beginning in the Spring semester.

Damion Ratley (Yoakum) signed with Texas A&M University after scoring 20 touchdowns to go along with 1,197 receiving yards in eight games.

Jayson Rhodes (Deer Park) signed with the University of Kansas and Dede Westbrook (Cameron) signed with Oklahoma University. Rhodes was a force for the Buccaneer offensive line while Westbrook compiled 1,487 yards from the wide receiver position, hauling in 13 touchdown passes.

Kyle Fulks (Katy) did not play in 2014 for Blinn due to injury but still signed on to play at the Univesity of Utah and is the only player that will not report in the Spring semester. Alan Wright (San Antonio) and DeVante Mays (Livingston) are each headed to the Mountain West Conference as Wright signed with Fresno (Calif.) State University and Mays signed with Utah State University. A safety, Wright ranked third on the Buccaneer defense with 48 tackles while Mays was the Buccaneers’ leading rusher with 557 yards and three touchdowns in six games.

Sam Freireich (Austin) was the seventh player to sign to a Division I team as he will continue playing offensive line at St. Francis (Pa.) University, a Football Championship Subdivision team.

Three Blinn players signed with Division II schools. Defensive lineman DeQuan Raindle (Corsicana) signed with Harding (Ark.) University. Defensive tackle Kohlton Tegeler (Victoria) signed with Fort Lewis (Colo.) College and safety Cornelius Barber (Pearland) signed with Henderson State (Ark.) University.

The Buccaneers went 4-4 last season in their first year under head coach Keith Thomas.

More Buccaneers are expect to sign on National Signing Day Feb. 4.
