The Highway 105 bridge replacement project has received the environmental cleared from the Federal Highway Administration, meaning traveling over the Navasota and Brazos River will be much safer in the near future.

Bob Colwell of the Regional office of the Texas Department of Transportation in Bryan says this is a significant development and should lead to three new bridges being constructed in the next few years.

Colwell says the federal ruling found no significant impact on the environment to produce with this bridge project.  He says the three bridges are old and need to be rebuilt and relocated to a more stable location.  The purpose of the project is to realign and replace structurally obsolete bridges, that have needed replacing for many years.  Land acquisition and the design construction plans are beginning now.

The replacing of these bridges have become more urgent in recent years due to some dangerous accidents. In July a pizza supply truck burst into flames while traveling over one of the bridges in July.

Colwell says the public hearing summary and analysis, including responses to comments are available for viewing at the TxDot Bryan Office.
