11-BUCS CRUSH A&T IN OPENER, 68-0

Quarterback Daveon Boyd leads Blinn into the end zone with three touchdowns

No. 11 Blinn College football (1-0) had no trouble sealing its’ first win of the season as the Buccaneers took down Texas A&T, 68-0, on Saturday night at Cub Stadium in the season opener.

“I couldn’t be more happy than to open the season with this kind of victory,” said Ryan Mahon, Blinn head coach. “The defense was stout tonight and it was great to see our offense execute and do all the things that we have been practicing in preseason.”

Sophomore quarterback Daveon Boyd led the Blinn offense with three touchdowns. He rushed in his first touchdown from one-yard out in the first quarter and later connected with Corey Smith for 30 yards and Keric Wheatfall for 13 yards within the first four minutes of the second quarter to give Blinn a 30-0 lead.

“We have a lot of playmakers on the team from the first string all the way to third string so we want to continue to capitalize on that,” Boyd said. “Keeping our spread offense is going to help us throughout the whole season.”

Smith started things off for the Buccaneers after returning the first kick-off of the game for a touchdown with 14:47 on the clock. Boyd scored the second touchdown of the quarter for Blinn to lead 16-0.

After taking a 30-0 lead with 11:25 left in the second quarter, the Buccaneers scored on a safety to take a 32-0 lead. Devin McAdoo rushed in the final touchdown of the quarter for Blinn to lead 39-0 at the half.
