NJCAA passing leader Brock Landis throws three touchdowns

BRENHAM, Texas — The No. 16 Blinn College football team breezed past Rezolution Prep Academy, 72-7, for a non-conference win on Saturday night at Cub Stadium.
“It is always nice to get a win and tonight was a chance to get a bunch of players in the game and see them do some really good things,” said Ryan Mahon, Blinn head coach. “It was great to see that every group could play with speed and that every guy knew what they were doing and did it at a high level.”
Quarterback Brock Landis, NJCAA leader in passing yards per game and passing touchdowns, did his job in leading the offense by completing 10-of-18 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns in the first half of play.“It feels really good to have everyone work as a collective unit on our offense and put up a lot of points,”

Landis said. “We have talent all over because all of our wide receivers and running backs are really good and I really like our offensive line. Everybody is doing a good job and not being selfish so tonight’s score is a result of that.”
CJ Jones led Blinn with two rushing touchdowns, racking up 67 yards on seven carries.
Danny Gray was solid on offense recording three receptions for 123 yards and one touchdown, Trea Shropshire made one catch for a 31-yard touchdown, and Xavier Hutchinson caught one pass for a 67-yard touchdown.
D’Anthony Simms-Coleman recorded 91 yards on seven carries for one touchdown.
The defense limited the Wildcats to just one touchdown in the third quarter.

“We spend a lot of time practicing and if everybody does their job then this is the result,” said Kemon Smith, sophomore defensive lineman. “We feel like we can always win as long as we continue to do our jobs and execute.”
Blinn started the game by building a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. Landis linked up with Shropshire for the first touchdown with 10:21 in the opening quarter before the Buccaneers gained two points on a safety with 8:22 on the clock. Trevion McNeil ended the quarter with an interception.
“It felt really great to get into a good rhythm tonight and get an interception,” McNeil said. “Our defense is getting better every day.”
The offense started rolling in the second quarter as the Buccaneers scored six touchdowns to lead 51-0 at the half.The Buccaneers rushed in the first two touchdowns as Simms-Coleman scored on a seven-yard run at the 13:22 mark and Jones scored on a two-yard scamper with 9:32 showing. Blinn extended its lead to 30-0 when Marquise Doucette scored on a 55-yard punt return with 8:48 left. Landis helped lead Blinn to its next 14 points, sending an 80-yard pass to Gray with 7:49 left and a 67-yard touchdown pass to Hutchinson with 4:45 remaining. Jones scored Blinn’s final touchdown of the first half by rushing it in from the 16-yard-line with 56.3 seconds to go.
Blinn tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter as Xavion West threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Gerome Henry with 13:53 on the clock and Darius Reece rushed the ball in from the one-yard line with 2:35 remaining. Rezolution Prep scored its lone touchdown in the third quarter at the 12:23 mark.
In the fourth quarter, Reece scored the final touchdown of the game from the 11-yard-line to give Blinn a 72-7 lead with 3:13 left.
Next, the Buccaneers will resume conference play against No. 13 Trinity Valley Community College on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. The game will feature Homecoming festivities and the first 500 fans will receive a Blinn Buccaneer cap and foam hand.
