WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE TAX PHASE-IN FOR VALMONT COATINGS
A tax phase-in agreement with Valmont Coatings for a galvanizing plant in Brenham was approved this morning (Tuesday) at the Washington County Commissioners meeting.
Commissioners approved a similar request from Valmont in March of last year. The company then put those plans on hold in May, while laying off 40-percent of their workforce—160 workers in all. When asked if Valmont would see this tax-phase in through or if layoffs would happen again, General Manager of the Valmont Coatings Division, Michael Riley said there is a slim chance of a repeat of last year.
Commissioners approved a onetime $10,000 contribution to fund participation in the Brazos River Authority’s Lower Basin Floodplain Study. Also approved was the appointment of Thomas Stevens to the Washington County Historical Commission.
A subdivision variance request on Tigerpoint Road out of the James Schrier Survey in Precinct 4 was approved as well as fairgrounds management’s rental and regulations contracts for a craft show, Christmas party, and concession.
Commissioners met behind closed doors in an executive session with legal counsel to discuss the policies and contracts between the county and towing companies regarding a towing rotation. That rotation would cover all abandoned, impounded, junked and disabled vehicles.
A vote was not taken on this request.
